MKAD Fiscal Sponsorship Program
The Midtown Kingston Arts District (MKAD) offers fiscal sponsorship to artists, collectives, and community-based organizations whose projects align with our mission to support and strengthen the arts in Midtown Kingston.
What is Fiscal Sponsorship?
Fiscal sponsorship is a formal arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (MKAD) supports a non-exempt project by providing financial and administrative oversight. This allows the sponsored project to apply for grants and receive tax-deductible donations under MKAD’s nonprofit status—without needing to form a separate nonprofit entity.
Who Is Eligible?
- Individual artists
- Informal artist collectives
- Community organizers and grassroots initiatives
- Organizations without 501(c)(3) status
Projects must demonstrate alignment with MKAD’s mission to engage and uplift the Midtown Kingston community through the arts.
What Services Are Provided?
Depending on the needs of the project, MKAD fiscal sponsorship may include:
- Grant fund management and reimbursement support
- Expense tracking and financial reporting
- Bill payment and record-keeping assistance
- Use of MKAD’s tax-exempt status for eligible purchases
- Access to special event insurance when applicable
Fees
MKAD fees are on a scale depending on the services provided, typically between 7-12% on project income (e.g., grant funds, entry fees, donations) received on behalf of the sponsee.
Responsibilities of Sponsored Projects
- Use all funds exclusively for the approved project
- Maintain accurate records of all purchases and disbursements
- Meet all grant reporting requirements and submit final reports to MKAD
- Acknowledge MKAD as fiscal sponsor in promotional materials and press
