Statement of Expectations
We envision our Board members to assume one or all of these roles as an Ambassador, an Advocate, or an Asker.
All MKAD board members can help identify, qualify, cultivate and develop strategies that build relationships with prospects and donors as an Ambassador, Advocate and/or Asker.* These tasks will assist MKAD to design assignments that are specific and geared to each board member’s interest, skills and motivation.
At MKAD, we believe creativity builds connection, nurtures healing, and strengthens communities. Our Board of Directors plays a vital role in supporting our mission to advocate for, educate through, and celebrate the arts in Midtown Kingston. Members of our Board are expected to:
- Believe in the transformative power of the arts to uplift communities and by supporting MKAD, you share a commitment to equitable access to meaningful arts experiences and professional development opportunities.
- Serve as advocates and ambassadors for MKAD – Be well-versed with our mission, vision, history, and accomplishments.
- Participate in fundraising, suggest board or committee prospects, and give an annual financial contribution of any amount that is personally meaningful to you.
- Promote MKAD programs and volunteer at events whenever possible
- Participate in professional development and organizational learning, including an annual Board retreat..
- Attend board meetings, held every other month (six times per year) where we collectively review and approve the budget, participate in strategic planning, engage in regular self-assessment, conduct an annual evaluation of the Executive Director, and periodically evaluate the health of the organization.
- Act in accordance with the bylaws, and conflict of interest/confidentiality policies to ensure legal and ethical integrity of MKAD.
- Serve on at least one committee as needed.
